Finally, after more than a decade and a half of waits, Nissan has shown off the third-generation Frontier for the 2022 model year. It still has a frame from the early 2000s, but the suspension has been changed, and the rest of the truck has been a lot better.

Unlike other modern midsize pickup trucks, this one isn’t in style yet. But its bold bodywork and popular technology could make it the new hot thing. The new Frontier no longer looks like a throwback to the past with a futuristic face and blistered fenders based on the original Nissan “Hardbody” compact trucks. Its predecessor, which was mainly unchanged for 16 years, looked very similar. Another example is that the interior goes from drab to pretty damn lovely, thanks to a more stylish layout and extra features. Hence, this is also true for the new generation. Power comes from a 310-hp V-6 that works with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. How Much and Which One to Buy

If you want to get the best value for your money, we think the SV model is the best choice. It would be best to start with the crew cab, which is the bigger of the two cab sizes. It would also have a four-wheel drive. Our truck would come with the Convenience and Technology packages. Still, we’d also add the 8.0-inch touchscreen and the six-way power-adjustable driver seat. Toggle them all together, and you get adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automated emergency braking, and heated front seats and steering wheel. You also get a trailer hitch, lights in the cargo bed, a spray-in bed liner, and a trailer hitch. Putting this together adds $4600 to the bottom line.

The engine, transmission, and performance of the Nissan Frontier 2022

The 2020 Frontier had Nissan’s new naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6. The 2022 Frontier will have the same engine. There is a 310 horsepower engine that makes 281 pound-feet of torque, too. It works with a nine-speed automatic transmission and can be used with either rear- or four-wheel drive. When we took the Frontier for a spin, we found its V-6 engine enough to get us going and be very smooth. Even though it’s not as powerful as the lifted Chevy Colorado ZR2 or the Jeep Gladiator, the Pro-4X model is ready and willing to go off-road. We also liked the Nissan’s new quick and direct steering and a lot of other chassis improvements that have made the truck feel more stable and refined while it’s on the move.

Towing and load-carrying capacity

As with the previous generation, it can only pull 6720 pounds, which isn’t enough to tow cars like the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator, which can remove at least 7650 pounds. The Nissan’s maximum payload does go up by 160 pounds from 1450 pounds to 1610 pounds, but that’s not a lot.

Connectivity and Infotainment

It is how the new Frontier’s infotainment system works. You can get an 8.0-inch or a 9.0-inch touchscreen with the car. Below the screen, a pair of physical knobs can be used to change the stereo’s volume and tuning. Connectivity options like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and many charging ports with USB-C ports are the most desirable. Thus, this isn’t unheard of.

There are two complete sets of LATCH connections in the rear seats to install child safety seats. A tether anchor for the back middle seat is also included in Crew Cab vehicles.
